What is Clemson thinking?

Clemson, in its efforts to increase revenue in Littlejohn, has constructed an idea of building a parking garage. I am all for building a parking garage and attracting more revenue to the University, but don't put the freaking thing right behind the newly constructed West Endzone, and don't get rid of arguably the best place to tailgate before football games.

This is what we see now with all the time, energy, and cash thrown at the West Endzone:

Pretty classy, very modern, and a great place to show recruits that we are serious about football.

Here is what is proposed:

Why would the university not place this eyesore across the street, behind the baseball stadium? Why would it not move it anywhere other than directly in front of the new "centerpiece" of the stadium? Nothing says tradition and excellence like tailgating in a freaking parking garage.

In other news, the former Tiger pro golfers are having a great year. With Glover bringing home a national championship, Trahan, Stanley, and Warren all playing well, CU has gotten a lot of television exposure over the past few weeks. This is great exposure for CU and nice to have well mannered professional athletes representing our school.

There really is not much else going on with the Tigers for another month or so...then the real fun begins.

  1. I know you don't care about soccer but making it to AC Milan is big stuff.

  2. If they have parking on top of the deck, then that might be a good place to tailgate. Inside the deck might be a good place if it is pouring down rain, or 100 degrees. Good luck trying to get out of there at the end of a big game.

Seriously, I agree that I really do not want to see a parking deck in that location, but I am sure they figure that they want it as close to DV, Littlejohn, and DK as possible, so that people attending sporting events do not have to walk as far. If they are doing this for the students, they should build it on top of the parking lot behind the old quad since that is a heck of a lot closer to the middle of campus, and would not really be an eye sore.

  3. WTF they wanna put it in that parking lot?

Theres room on the other side of the baseball stadium, behind the 1B side that wouldnt be an eyesore at all.

Why build the WEZ and lose the aesthetic appeal from Perimeter road and the practice fields by putting the garage right there?

  4. I am not diagreeing with you, but that parking lot is closer to the middle of cmapus and the stadium than any location across perimeter road. The best location from the perspective of the students is the parking lot behind the quad, but I doubt that will happen. Another good location would be the lot behind the engineering building, since it is generally hidden, and is close to most classes. That would not help with sporting events that much, but it would be good for the students if the students really need more parking. Putting it on the other side of perimeter road really makes no sense for the students who want to park and walk to class, and really does not help that much with games.

  5. Good point, behind the engineering buildings would work fine, or maybe knock down some trees and put it near the Strom Thurmond Institute. Theres a small commuter lot back there that would benefit from being expanded into a garage and it wouldnt put that many people out of a spot to park when they clear it to build.

  6. The addition of a parking deck directly behind the stadium is on par with the scene you get in Columbia. It detracts from tailgating. There are plenty of alternate sites for this garage to service Littlejohn without blocking the WEZ.

By the way, I NEVER had an issue with parking as a student, specifically behind the stadium. Where does this influx of cars derive from?
